The 64-year-old was killed after reportedly suffering a medical emergency and crashing into a tree near a busy Prince William County intersection, police said last week.

Investigators said that early on Thursday, Oct. 24, Utupan was driving in the area of Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road, when he lost control of his Chevrolet Blazer in the southbound lanes of the parkway, crossed over the grassy median and struck several trees, where the truck came to rest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Now, the community is rallying around Utupan's friends and family, with more than $13,000 of a stated $35,000 goal raised over the course of several days.

"With profound sadness, we share the heartbreaking news of the unexpected passing of our beloved friend, member of our church, Adrian Aurel Utupan," organizers of a GoFundMe wrote.

"For over 24 years, Adrian brought love, laughter, and kindness to all who knew him here in USA, and his loss has left an indescribable void in our lives."

Utupan was described as "an incredible friend, a dedicated husband and father, an unwaveringly compassionate soul.

"He touched so many lives, and now, as we cope with this unimaginable tragedy, we want to support their family in any way we can."

Friends said that Utupan "would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need," now, the community is returning that favor.

"In addition to the emotional pain, Rodica and Andreea are now facing unexpected expenses for memorial services, as well as the financial adjustments that come with losing a loved one so suddenly," organizers wrote.

"Now, we have an opportunity to honor his memory by supporting the family in need."
